The world’s most popular instant messaging platform WhatsApp has announced it will launch five new features in 2022.
The new features
WhatsApp, which is home to millions of active users around the globe, has announced it will launch five new features in the coming year. It comes as Mark Zuckerberg, who recently announced the rebrand of Facebook as a 3D virtual metaverse called Meta, puts plans in place to grow and develop the brand and improve user experience.
The proposed features include an unlimited timeframe on the ‘delete for everyone’ function, the integration of Instagram Reels, a logout option, a ‘read later’ feature, and, finally, the option to hide your ‘last seen’ status from certain contacts.
If you are an active user of the app, you should be able to experience the features when they are rolled out in early 2022.
Part of a wider plan
It is unsure how long these features have been in the process of being approved but they have reportedly been tested in beta. The official launch date has also yet to be announced with no official announcement from WhatsApp as of yet.
The new features are set to encourage more users to use the app on a regular basis and uncover the various ways in which it can be used aside from just messaging.
It has also been suggested that these features are part of a wider plan from Meta to merge its entire social media network in the coming years.
