Twitch confirms ban on unregulated casino streaming

Twitch is abuzz with controversy at the moment. There are talks of a lot of things that Twitch would ordinarily sensor, involving big Twitch names like Pokimane, Trainwrecks, Hasan Piker, and more, but it all stems from the idea of casino streaming on the platform.

You can understand the wider drama here, but it all culminates in pressure on Twitch to entirely ban casino streaming from the platform. Users and streamers alike have taken aim at the concept, which is taking off online, of streamers gambling for views and are calling for an outright ban.

However, Twitch has offered up a half-measure. Instead, they have simply banned unregulated casino streaming on the platform. All streams of unregulated casino websites will be wiped from the site, which is helpful since offshore and unregulated sites are a big contributor to gambling harm, but louder voices are saying that it doesn’t go far enough.

But, what Twitch considers “unregulated” is, as explained by Twitch themselves, “streaming of gambling sites that include slots, roulette or dice games that aren’t licensed either in the US or other jurisdictions that provide sufficient customer protection”.

A lot of sites should be safe then, given that there is also Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, Africa, and even a majority of North America to consider. However, a lot of big names have been banned from the site, such as Rollbit, Roobet, Duelbits, and even Canadian rapper, Drake’s, partner Stake.com.
