Level 88: The future of online casinos in the United States

There have been many changes to online gambling in the United States over the past few years. Some of these changes have had a direct impact on online casinos, with the relaxation of legislation being the major development. It is now in the hands of each individual state to decide whether or not they want to legalise online casinos.

For those people residing in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Delaware it is possible to enjoy online casino games legally. However, we could be about to see several other states pass legislation to make online casinos legal. In July 2020, online casinos were launched in West Virginia so this is a recent development and is perhaps a glimpse into the future of online casinos in the United States.

Over the next few years, we expect to see online casinos launched in other states across the USA. However, there has been some opposition, especially from owners of land based casinos. For the gambler, online casinos have a lot to offer in terms of the selection of games plus the convenience of not having to leave the home. Live online casinos are continuing to improve and many offer the chance to play games such as roulette, poker, blackjack, and baccarat at real brick and mortar casinos using a live feed.

The technology is fantastic but many people feel it is going to undermine the land based casino market in the United States. The question is, will the addition of more online casinos in current  and future regulated states really damage the brick-and-mortar businesses? Going to Las Vegas with friends to spend a weekend at the casino is not going to be replaced by online casinos in the United States, but what about the future of the online casinos themselves?

A look at the selection of US online casinos shows there is already a fantastic choice of casinos available for those playing in the United States. Chumba Casino, Gambino Slots and Luckyland Slots are just three of the high quality online casinos currently on offer in the US. Interestingly, some states require an online casino to have a physical premises before they are allowed to operate on the internet. This has led to many land based casino owners signing deals with online casino software providers.

It is good news for the software providers because as more states open their doors to online casinos the more partnerships they will be able to create with brick and mortar casinos. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues or if the laws are relaxed. A relaxation of the laws would mean online casinos can provide their services in states without having to come together with a land-based business.

For the time being, we expect the future of online casinos in the United States to follow a similar pattern to what has come before. As each state welcomes online casinos, software companies will be eager to make deals with land based casino companies and it could be a win-win situation.
