Swedish gaming venues to face limits on opening hours

In light of new restrictions on the serving of alcohol due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Swedish gaming venues are having to introduce limits on opening hours.

The temporary ban means that alcohol cannot be served between the hours of 10 PM and 11 AM at premises that hold a serving licence. It came into effect on the 20th of November, and is due to remain in place until the end of February in 2021. Any casinos with a serving license and slot machines will not be able to offer commercial gaming past 10 PM.

The regulator Spelinspektionen confirmed that this will apply to those Swedish gaming venues whose license specifically state that slots must be provided at those venues with a serving permit.

These limitations come off the back of a new conversation about the temporary controls for the online casinos operating in Sweden. Players have only been allowed to make maximum weekly deposits of SEK5000 (£434.60) for some time, but the government is considering extending this past the current end-date until June 2021.

In addition to this, players would be required to set limits on their play time before a session of online casino games or slots. There would also be a limit of bonuses of just SEK100.
