The Spanish DGOJ is set to form a new technical body charged with gambling harmonisation. This comes as a result of a new collaborative accord which will look at standards, market controls and the federal gambling laws in Spain. With stage 2 of the federal gambling reforms on their way in 2021, those operating in Spain should be aware of this new body.
Complying with EU competition standards
The DGOJ will work with UNE, the standardisation body that was formed by the Ministry of the Economy. This will allow them to comply with EU competition standards across the 17 autonomous regions.
UNE will gather feedback and spearhead how the new body will form its frameworks. Once the body is established, it will engage with EU-level meetings, representing Spain and its online gambling laws and standards.
Gambling reforms on the way
This new body is expected to benefit Spain’s health services and public administrations. UNE will seek the accreditation of experts in relation to technical concerns.
This comes as operators and stakeholders in Spain await the publishing of stage 2 of the federal gambling reforms. Some of the objectives sought by the Consumer Affairs Ministry in Spain include the creation of the self-exclusion scheme. Additionally, there could be an online gambling player registry which would benefit those operating in the industry and players.
