Live streaming service Twitch will ban users from sharing online casino links for games like slots and roulette.
Users have until the 17th of August to remove any and all links to such sites from their channel. This includes affiliate links and referral codes. Users who do not remove such codes will face sanctions.
Potential changes in the future
Twitch also added that they would continue to monitor the content across their platform. Should they deem it necessary, they could choose to further restrict the streaming and sharing of gambling-related content on their site.
In a creator update, Twitch said: “To prevent harms and scams created by questionable services that sponsor content on Twitch, we will prohibit sharing links and/or referral codes to sites that offer slots, roulette or dice games.”
Twitch does allow the streaming of gambling-related content, but this removal of online casino links is a new move to protect their audience from unregulated influences. It is also important to remember that the minimum age needed to create an account on Twitch is just 13, and there are no filters to remove 18+ content like casino games, though creators can place content warnings on their streams.
These new moves by Twitch could be seen as moving to protect these younger viewers. Twitch is one of the biggest live-streaming platforms and has become a key broadcaster for esports competitions and other gaming events.
Affiliates with active links and codes on the platform should make sure to remove them before the restrictions come in.
