Two of the most renowned online wallets, Skrill and Neteller, have informed merchants that they will not be processing online gambling payments in Norway. Both eWallets will stop any deposits going to gambling merchants in this country. This change came into effect on 8 December 2020 and has already impacted players and affiliates alike.
Bad news for online gamblers
Players in Norway have been using Skrill and Neteller for secure payments at online casinos and sports betting sites for years. These e-wallets were seen as trustworthy and secure but now, players will need to find an alternative payment providers if they want to continue depositing and betting at gaming sites.
Norwegian wallet account holders will simply be able to conduct personal money transfers, non-gambling transactions and ATM withdrawals as part of the service. They will also be able to utilise Paysafe’s ewallet crypto services.
Affiliates have been advised to update content within their sites to reflect the changes and ensure their content and instructional messaging is accurately informing customers about the latest rules and regulation in regards to this region.
Deadline approaching
This change has already come into effect as of 8 December but the deadline for payouts from gambling merchants is 21 December. After this date, Norwegians will no longer be able to cash out their funds to their e-wallet accounts.
With Skrill and Neteller pulling out of online gambling payments in Norway, ecoPayz is now the only viable alternative. This payment solution is currently still accepted at online casinos and sports betting sites across the globe, including Norway.
