The Dutch iGaming regulation body, de Kansspelautoriteit (or the KSA), has issued a fine to online gaming operator, Bingoal. The fine comes to €350,000 (£310,721/$376,164) due to breaches in regulations when it comes to the Cruks self-exclusion system during the new player registration process.
Throughout June 2022, the KSA found that Bingoal players were allowed to register for the online casino without cross-checking the player’s details with the self-exclusion service, Cruks. This means that players that had signed up to exclude themselves from gambling were able to find an online source of gambling in Bingoals.
The KSA said that during this period, the required valid public key infrastructure certificate required by license operators was expire and did not therefore run checks on players. In turn, they accepted new players and allowed them to gamble without the consultation of Cruks.
“Bingoal should not have done that; the law says that a player may only gain access to a high-risk game of chance after a game provider has determined that the player in question is not registered in Cruks,” the KSA said. “Cruks is an important tool to combat gambling addiction and to protect players against the undesirable effects of gambling.”
Bingoal has lodged an appeal against the ruling.
