Mistakes to avoid as a new affiliate

When you first get started in the affiliate marketing industry, it can be very exciting. Not only are there tons of opportunities for you to get involved in but there is a lot of money to be made. This is where affiliates start to make mistakes, as they get distracted by the thought of excellent rev share deals and instant growth.

However, as a new affiliate, you must be ready to avoid the mistakes that other affiliates before you have made. Here are some of the common mistakes that you should know about.

Not learning about the product

In iGaming, there are a lot of buzzwords that are thrown around. If you are becoming an iGaming affiliate with little to no experience in this industry at all, you might find it difficult to appear knowledgeable on the topic. By not allocating time to learn about the product or the service you are affiliated with, you aren’t going to do it justice and really drive traffic.

Spend some time reading up on iGaming – learn about the latest slots, the big names in the industry and the latest regulations. The more you know, the easier it will be to appear authoritative on the matter.

Joining too many programs

For many affiliates, having a few streams of income is vital to keeping their platform running. However, as a new affiliate, joining too many affiliate programs can become overwhelming at first and so this is something that you should try to avoid. If you join multiple programs but don’t give them enough attention, you won’t be doing them any justice.

Research any potential opportunities well and make the right decision. It doesn’t hurt to join a few at once but don’t give yourself too much work or you might give up before you have even started.

Neglecting to monitor traffic

So, you have your new affiliate site set up and you’re starting to get traffic – but are you monitoring where this traffic is coming from? This is a common mistake that new affiliates make as they are simply happy to be getting any traffic at all. However, if you want to become a successful affiliate in the iGaming industry, you must monitor your traffic.

The good news is that there are tons of tools to help with this and make your life easier. The more you analyse your traffic and spending, the easier it will be to allocate your budget and really drive that profit.

Not using your affiliate managers

Affiliate managers are there to support affiliates and build relationships that work for both parties. As a new affiliate, you should take as much advantage of this as possible, in order to build your own portal. Network and connect with your affiliate manager as often as you can, and you should be able to learn everything that you need to know. They might be able to offer additional support and can sometimes even provide marketing materials.

Often – if you don’t ask, you don’t get!

Stay ahead…

As a new affiliate, you have the world at your fingertips so make sure to avoid making these same mistakes. Try to learn all that you can about the industry, and your niche, and this should help you to succeed. Don’t forget to rely on your affiliate manager!
