France’s Ligue de Football Profesionell (LFP) has signed a deal with Betclic for the operator to become the official betting partner of Ligue 1.
The deal will come into force from the beginning of the 2020/2021 French professional football season.
Through this partnership, Betclic will also be the official gambling partner for Ligue 2 – the second-highest division in the country.
The deal will last for three years, concluding at the end of the 2022/2023 season.
Ligue 1 a popular division to bet on in France
Betclic Founder and Chief Executive Nicolas Béraud spoke about the new deal with the LFP. He said the following.
“Ligue 1 Uber Eats, in particular, is the most wagered upon competition on Betclic. The offers that we are going to deploy as part of this partnership will allow all French football fans to experience their passion for the sport even more intensely.”
The deal was signed to start at the beginning of next season to align with the beginning of Uber Eats’ naming sponsorship with Ligue 1.
When the campaign begins, it’s expected that various physical and digital activations will be rolled out.
When will Ligue 1 begin for the 2020/2021 season?
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the French football season was concluded early. Rather than completing the full list of fixtures, tables were decided on a ‘points-per-game’ basis.
In April, French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe announced a ban on sporting events until September. However, as was reported by Goal.com yesterday, the 2020/2021 season will commence on the weekend of 22nd-23rd August. If all goes to plan, the campaign will end towards the end of May.
Other sports in France, such as horse racing, have been allowed to return behind closed doors.
