Instagram has announced the introduction of a number of new safety features designed to protect users from abusive or harmful content.
Advanced blocking tools will now allow users to block accounts and any other connected accounts, including ones made in the future. Instagram expects that this new automated blocking feature will lead to users having to manually block 4 million fewer accounts per week.
Last year, Instagram launched the Hidden Words feature, which allowed users to filter out certain words and phrases to remove related content from their feeds. The option will now be available for Creator accounts, and will be extended to encompass Story replies, new languages, intentional misspellings of offensive words, and will now include new filter terms.
Finally, the platform has introduced new Nudges to warn users that they may be posting hurtful messages. Software can assess the appropriateness of a particular comment and alert the poster, allowing them to change their mind before posting. These Nudges will be available for English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Chinese, or Arabic users.
Earlier this month, Instagram launched a series of new advertising tools, including an impressive, augmented reality feature. Users can use the camera on their mobile device to check how a product would look in their home, try on outfits, or even test drive a new car.
