Instagram is fully embracing its retail side with an upgrade to its user interface that will see the Shop Tab appear on your main screen. This is just one of a few tweaks to the app’s layout and functions, but definitely the most significant to affiliate marketers.
Another difference will be that the button for creating content will be moved back to the bottom of the screen, where it was previously and where the Reels button currently is.
But Social Media Today pointed out a worrying issue with this change: “[This] is another concession, of sorts, that shopping isn’t taking off as well as Instagram had hoped – though Instagram notes that it will still support its shopping tools after the update.”
As per IG: “You’ll still be able to set up and run your shop on Instagram as we continue to invest in shopping experiences that provide the most value for people and businesses across feed, stories, reels, ads and more.”
There was a trend of online shopping going through the roof, that Meta says they wrongly assumed would continue once lockdowns were lifted. Could Meta be prompting its Instagram staff to ramp up the shopping features like the Shop Tab to boost this shift?
If it works, marketers can have another avenue to go down in their social media marketing.
