GamCare to support women affected by gambling with dedicated chatroom

UK-based gambling charity GamCare will support women affected by gambling-related harm through a dedicated chatroom.

The chatroom, which will launch this coming Saturday (19:00-20:00hrs), will be open to al who identify as female.

GamCare says that this new service is part of its ‘daily support sessions’.

The new chatroom follows on from a recent GambleAware report, which revealed the impact of gambling issues on women in the UK.

Women are disproportionately negatively impacted by gambling-related harms”

GamCare released a statement about their soon-to-launch service, in which they said the following.

“Women can be disproportionately negatively impacted by gambling-related harms, which include financial, relationship and mental health issues. GamCare is running this session for any women who are affected by gambling, whether they are the gambler, or a family member or friend.”

In a GambleAware report released over the summer, it was revealed that women were more likely to shy away from receiving help when it came to gambling issues. This was mainly due to not wanting others to find out and resulting in embarrassing themselves.

Working on other initiatives for women

GamCare has also said that it will keep working on its ‘Women’s Programme’. In this, the charity aims to give those who need access to necessary treatment the opportunity to do so.

The organisation also mentioned that it is continuing to cooperate with both public and third sector groups. This is to create a framework, which will apply across the entire country, to spread awareness of gambling-related harm – plus its consequences – to as many women as possible.

Once registered, the GamCare chatroom is accessible from 19:00 BST on 12th September.
