Coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused disruption across the globe with travel bans, quarantines and sporting postponements coming into effect.
Here’s a round-up of the main events that have been altered or postponed due to the outbreak.
Football
All games in the English Premier League and Football League have been suspended until at least April 3rd. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea Winger Callum Hudson-Odi have both tested positive for the disease.
The England national team‘s fixtures against Italy and Denmark, scheduled for 27th and 31st March respectively, have also been called off.
In Scotland, the rest of the season has been suspended indefinitely.
UEFA has postponed all of this week’s matches in the Champions League and Europa League. Tomorrow, the possibility of delaying Euro 2020 for a year will be discussed.
Elsewhere on the continent, Italy‘s top division – Serie A – has been halted until April 3rd. In France, both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 have been suspended until further notice. La Liga is on hold for “at least two rounds”, while in Germany the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga are to be stopped until the beginning of April.
The Dutch Eredivisie and MLS in the US are also suspended for now.
Basketball
NBA is suspended after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for COVID-19. As part of this, the annual March Madness event has also been cancelled.
Other sports
The NHL season is on hold as a result of the outbreak, which has affected over 100,000 people worldwide. The Masters has been suspended in golf, while Wales v Scotland in the Six Nations was postponed over the weekend. There is no set date for this rugby tournament to be completed yet.
In tennis, the ATP is suspended for a minimum of six weeks. Formula One is also on hold.
