Projected election results in three US states have shown that voters support sports betting. Voters in Maryland, Louisiana and South Dakota backed the move to regulate the vertical in the November 3 election ballot.
A positive result for sports betting
As the results of the US election ballot are counted, it is becoming increasingly likely that sports betting will be legalised in these three states. In Louisiana, the preliminary results suggested that legal wagering received support from voters across 55 out of 64 parishes.
A spokesperson from Louisiana Wins said: “Our Louisiana Wins coalition brought together industry, business groups, and community leaders to educate voters and approve this ballot measure that will help fund priorities here in Louisiana.”
In South Dakota, Amendment B was approved by 58.5% of voters. This means that sports betting will be legalised in the city of Deadwood. This result has been welcomed as it would add the wagering of slots, roulette, blackjack and more to the city.
In Maryland, those voting in favour of legal wagering made up 66.2% of the votes. This was secured by Governor Larry Hogan and other high-ranking officials showing their support for the legalisation.
US opportunities
While the main focus of the November 3 election ballot was on the presidential race, rather than sports betting bills, the results are looking good. Final ballots still need to be counted but in Maryland, South Dakota and Louisiana, we can expect to see big changes within the industry.
