Barry Gibson, Chair of sports betting and gambling firm Entain, has spoken out and detailed his wish for the UK to overhaul gambling regulations with a focus on responsible betting and player safety.
Gibson was speaking at the World Regulatory Briefing, a conference held ahead of ICE London 2023. There he said: “A good regulator is one that has player safety at its core but that also takes into account the interests of the broader industry – operators, employees, sporting bodies – working in proper consultation with the industry to create an environment that balances an open recreational market with the need to provide the highest levels of player protection.”
He went on to detail Entain’s efforts to promote greater player safety. The company reshuffled its board and executive team and launched a new responsible gambling initiative, the Advanced Responsibility and Care scheme.
This new approach could be seen as a reaction to the regulatory action Entain faced last year. After being found to have breached social responsibility and anti-money laundering regulations, the gambling company was fined a record £17 million.
It would appear Entain is determined to avoid falling foul of the law again and is taking steps to safeguard its players and work towards safer gambling practices.
