The importance of compliance for affiliates in the US

One of the challenges that many affiliates now face is ensuring that they adhere to industry-imposed compliance measures. As seen in New Jersey this week, it can have negative implications if the rules aren’t followed.
With the US market lifting the ban on sports betting with last May’s PASPA repeal, regulation and complying to new regulations has been at the forefront of everyone’s mind.
New Jersey recently issued a crackdown on operators promoting unlicensed internet gaming websites, and the decision – for many – comes as no surprise. Given that the east coast state is one that has spearheaded some of the US’ most dramatic legal gaming expansion measures, there is a greater spotlight on rules and regulations – and how they are enforced.
If states across the US don’t ensure that sufficient compliance measures are put in place from the get-go, it is likely that there will be trouble further down the line.
We are seeing a shift in the sports betting industry, in particular around ensuring that both operators and their affiliates are fully compliant with state law, and in New Jersey in particular, affiliates have to be licensed.
With cases being brought forward to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), many hope that this will act as a deterrent for operators to work alongside illegal offshore bookmakers.
In the New Jersey case, DGE officials had pointed out that LatestCasinoBonuses (LCB) had potentially violated the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, by giving New Jersey players the chance to access unlicensed games.
Compliance is increasingly important across the US as more states begin to legalise sports betting, and this is therefore something that should definitely be taken into consideration if you are beginning to look at operating there.
