YouTuber/DJ duo and professional poker of bears, Cassetteboy, has taken aim at the UK Government once again. But this time, the subject of their ire is gambling laws.
Cassetteboy’s parody songs are released every few months and are always a viral moment, taking aim at UK officials and celebrities for perceived slights. No doubt put on by the lack of progress of the UK gambling white paper thanks to three new PMs in one year, Cassetteboy’s latest edited tune stars PM Rishi Sunak and takes aim at the 17-year-old gambling laws still in place.
Starting strong, the song has Rishi Sunak saying, to the tune of Warren G and Nate Dogg’s Regulate: “400 suicides every year. More than one a day, the cause is clear. The gambling industry is to blame. Failure to regulate is a national shame.”
The duo, or rather Rishi, then points out the effect of gambling on the UK economy under the current laws.
“Lots of these profits are moved overseas, so they don’t pay tax to HMRC. Lost bets cost 14 billion a year. The economic damage done, is costing us dear.”
It’s not like Cassetteboy is pointing at the problem and offering no solution. He has a few ideas that vary in strength in their measures…
“The law hasn’t changed for 17 years, since two years before the first iPhone appeared. There are some simple things we can do to protect, Like stake limits and affordability checks. We can stop gambling normalising, by banning direct marketing and advertising.”
There’s nothing like the closer of Cassetteboy himself, so we’ll leave you with his words: “We’re all letting down and forgetting, the 1.4 million addicted to betting. We haven’t done anything to regulate yet. We might still do it. Do you wanna bet?”
Is banning iGaming marketing going too far? Or does the industry need harsh regulation to ensure the safety of players?
