Canva, the world’s only all-in-one visual communication platform, unveiled its first European campus in London, last month.
Canva founders Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht and Cameron Adams discussed the role the European market will play in the company’s long-term efforts to remain the number one visual communication platform of choice, while also showcasing the company’s strategy for continued growth in the region.
Following Canva’s acquisition of UK-based Flourish last year, the company also unveiled a range of new ways Flourish’s world-leading data visualisation technology is being embedded as part of Canva’s core product experience. Flourish co-founder Duncan Clark steps into a new role as Canva Europe Lead.
The European market has played a significant role in Canva’s growth since launching in 2013, and it is home to some of the company’s fastest-growing markets. With its sights set on diversifying its product suite, the last few years have seen Canva embark on a journey to expand the platform’s core offering and technical strength through a series of strategic Europe-based acquisitions.
“We’re incredibly excited to unveil our first European campus as we continue to deliver on our mission to empower everyone to design. From creating world-class data storytelling features to building truly magical product experiences through AI, our teams across Europe play a critical role in making incredible things possible for our global community,” said Melanie Perkins, CEO, Canva. “As visual communication increasingly becomes table stakes, we’re looking forward to doubling down on our presence in the region to fuel new levels of impact.”
The Canva Affiliate Program
The Canva Affiliate Program, which has been a powerhouse for all types of affiliate partners over the past few years, is also going through a significant shift.
Detailing the update, Canva said: “As Canva continues to evolve, we have made the decision to shift the focus of our affiliate program toward individual content creators. This means we will no longer support non-creator partners in the program.”
Individual creators are defined by Canva as:
An individual (non-agency) who creates at least (1) piece of Canva-related content or training per month, and has a social audience of at least 5k followers on one of these channels:
- YouTube
- TikTok
and identifies with one of the personas below:
- Social media content creator
- Workshop facilitator
- Webinar/ podcast host
- Course developer
The intention is to now focus more on communities and individual content creators and this will impact content based and review partnerships significantly as they seek to diversify their spending to other partner types. Affiliates who have spent time to build Canva’s global brand presence may be soon disregarded in this uncharacteristic short term move.
