The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has unveiled a ‘New Code of Conduct for the Design of Online Games’.
Members of the council will, through this, agree to adhere to certain safety measures in the games that they offer.
Last spring, the BGC had announced its members would look at concerns related to “intensive slots and game designs”.
New measures as part of the council’s recently-released code will come into force from the beginning of October.
Changes
Under this new code, turbo play – in which players have the ability to speed up games – will be scrapped. Also going out of the window will be multi-slot play, which enables individuals to wager on more than one game.
Mandatory checks and breaks when playing for certain periods of time will also be strengthened through the soon-to-launch agreement.
BGC members have already agreed to introduce additional safeguards related to advertising, as well as reforming VIP schemes.
“Yet another example of our determination”
BGC Chief Executive Michael Dugher said the following about the launch of the new code.
“The BGC was set up last year with the aim of leading a race to the top in terms of standards within the regulated betting industry.
“The new Game Design Code of Conduct is yet another example of our determination to address concerns head on and meet our safer gambling commitments.
“I’m sure that our members will embrace this approach and commit to its objective of improving player safety. And as we prepare for the forthcoming Gambling Review, it is further evidence of our industry’s commitment to improving standards – unlike the completely unregulated black market.”
