BetMGM launches mobile sports betting app in Indiana

BetMGM has launched its mobile sportsbook in Indiana, adding to its presence in New Jersey and West Virginia.

The Indiana Gaming Commission approved the application of Roar Digital and its BetMGM product this week. This company is a joint-venture between MGM Resorts International and GVC Holdings.

Full mobile sports betting

The BetMGM mobile app will offer Indianan players in-app sports betting for both professional and college sporting events. Along with games in the US, others from around the world will be offered too.

Scott Butera, President of Interactive Gaming for MGM Resorts, shared his thoughts on BetMGM’s Indiana launch. These were as follows.

“Introducing BetMGM in Indiana is a significant development for Roar Digital and MGM Resorts.

“Indiana has a rich history in professional and amateur sports and a strong fan base. We believe that the sports betting opportunities offered by BetMGM, and access to MGM’s world-class entertainment offerings and resorts, will be well-received.”

Licensing

To begin with, BetMGM had been given a temporary licence by the state’s Commission. However, having satisfied the regulator during this time phase, they were awarded a full one.

Adam Greenblatt, Chief Executive of Roar Digital, believes that Indiana will prove to be a successful market for the app. He said the below.

“We’re excited to launch BetMGM in a state as passionate about sports as Indiana is and look forward to seeing fans in the state take advantage of our unique in-app offers.

“Indiana marks an incredibly important expansion for us as we look to solidify our presence in the Midwest and continue to bring BetMGM to new states in the US.”

A growing market

Indiana approved sports betting last May, when House Bill 1015 was approved.

While revenue dipped in January 2020, sports betting handle went up. A total of $12.9 million was processed by sportsbooks here last month, up by 7.3% on December 2019’s figures.

Since the market went live in September 2019, sports betting handle has increased each month.
