Betfred has reportedly won an auction to acquire MoPlay‘s player database from the UK and Ireland.
As part of this, it plans to pay out customers who are still waiting for funds from the troubled operator.
Official press release expected soon
The news of Betfred buying MoPlay’s player base was revealed in an email sent to customers. In this correspondence, Addison and Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited – which owns Betfred – said that players resident in the UK and Ireland “will be given the opportunity to have their cash balances honoured by Betfred.”
It’s expected that the sportsbook will publish an official press release in the near future.
Players who have open bets with MoPlay shall have these voided, with their stakes returned. With regards to its current situation, the company had the following to say.
“We apologise that it has taken so long to achieve this result for you, but it was important to ensure that the operator who we came to an agreement with was highly reputable and met strict data protection and privacy standards.”
By the look of things, players will have to create a Betfred account to gain access to their MoPlay funds. Customers are to be contacted soon with further details on how they can retrieve their money.
Troubles for MoPlay
On 19th February, Addison Global – the company which owned MoPlay – had its operator licence suspended by the Gibraltar Licensing Authority. This was because of an inability to honour outstanding debts.
A day later, the UK Gambling Commission went down an identical route and banned MoPlay from offering its services in this market. According to Addison Global, more financial backing was expected than was the reality.
The company’s management team resigned en masse last month, too, and still hasn’t been replaced. After its UK licence was revoked, MoPlay stopped processing player withdrawals.
