Ahead of this Saturday’s grudge rematch between David Haye and Tony Bellew, Betfair has unveiled the former heavyweight champion Haye as a brand ambassador for the online betting operator.
Haye’s new partnership with Betfair continues the company’s association with the boxer and Hayemaker Boxing Promotions which it also sponsors. The two year deal will see Haye regularly write exclusive columns for Betfair’s blog Betting.Betfair.
Stephen Mault, Betfair Marketing Director, described it as a perfect fit for both of them: “We are looking to increase our footprint within boxing and David’s character and reputation as one of the best heavy/cruiserweights to ever fight made him the perfect candidate. We’ve enjoyed working with Hayemaker Boxing Promotions and it seemed an obvious choice to extend our sponsorship to David Haye himself.”
The new Betfair Ambassador emphasised that he needs an ‘explosive’ victory over Tony Bellew in their rematch on Saturday night to prove to the boxing world that he is back to his best.
Speaking exclusively to Betfair, the heavyweight stated: “Victory isn’t good enough, it has to be explosive, it has to be dynamic and I have to make a statement to the rest of the heavyweights on the planet. They need to know after this victory that I am a force to be reckoned with.”
Haye also insisted that he is in prime condition for the bout this time around after admitting to being sloppy in the first fight: “The training camp has gone perfectly, I’m healthy, I’m in good shape and my timing is good,” he said. In the first fight, I was sloppy, and my timing was out but, unfortunately for Bellew, this time I’m razor sharp.”
