BetBlocker receives first corporate donation

BetBlocker has received its first corporate donation, after casino comparison site CasinoGuide chose to support the project.

The gambling ad blocker revealed the news in an official press release yesterday.

Support within the industry

Towards the end of 2019, BetBlocker Charity Trustee and Manager Duncan Garvie called on the industry to support this initiative. Since then, the organisation has been approved as a charity in the UK.

And now, CasinoGuide has helped to fund the growth of this project. Garvie said: “Having invested years of work and significant capital in developing the BetBlocker project, it is wonderful to see other parties within the industry take notice of the project and feel that it’s worthy of their support.”

He continued: “With their donation, CasinoGuide have set a standard for the affiliate industry. They’ve demonstrated that some affiliates out there are actively invested in minimising the harm that gambling can cause to vulnerable players. These affiliates are a credit to their community.”

Following this donation, CasinoGuide will showcase the BetBlocker gold tier donation seal on its site. This will link to a verification page on BetBlocker’s domain, which enables players to confirm whether or not these seals are genuine or not.

An emphasis on player protection

This week, big changes have taken place in terms of UK player protection. The Gambling Commission today announced that from 14th April, gambling via credit card will be banned.

During Responsible Gambling Week 2019, Garvie called on affiliates to help BetBlocker to reach more people. After CasinoGuide’s donation, he expressed gratitude that such companies were choosing to help – even if they didn’t want to.

CasinoGuide have also commented on the donation. Project Manager Alex Tester said: “At CasinoGuide, we believe that the service we provide carries an inherent responsibility to promote responsible gambling behaviour.

“Therefore, we’re delighted to be the first corporate donor for BetBlocker. This’ll assist in the further development of an extremely valuable tool, available across all platforms free-of-charge.”
