In a letter authored by the American Gaming Association, the US Department of Justice has been called upon to tighten up on restrictions surrounding the offshore unregulated gambling market.
Ben Miller, chief of the AGA has composed a letter detailing the threats surrounding unregulated gambling operators, and how this can impact consumers, state economies and the gaming industry alike.
If this move is successful, there will be a hard reevaluation of illegal casinos, online gambling and so-called “skill game” machines. The AGA is calling for the DOJ to investigate and prosecute some of the larger of these offshore companies which are allegedly openly violating both state and federal laws.
In his letter to the US Department of Justice, Miller wrote, “While the challenge of illegal gambling is not new, the brazen and coordinated manner in which it occurs — both online and in communities — has elevated this problem to a level that requires significant federal attention,
“We urge the Department to make it a priority to act…to protect American consumers, crack down on illegal operators, and enforce federal regulations.
“Illegal operators have been put on notice: their days as a scourge on our nation are numbered.
“These bad actors prey on vulnerable customers, offer no consumer protections, do not ensure integrity or fair play, and generate no economic benefit for states or tribal nations.”
Miller and the AGA are imploring the DOJ to require gambling companies and “skill-based” machine manufacturers to comply with Johnson Act registration requirements and anti-money laundering standards, and
