Matchbook given temporary suspension by the UKGC

Matchbook has been forced to halt its UK operations. The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has temporarily suspended its licence, spreading to all of its betting and casino offerings.

The suspension was placed on its operating entity, Triplebet Limited.

“Briefly closed”

At the close of play on 17th February, the company released a statement. In this, the below was said.

“Today, the UK Gambling Commission has taken the decision to temporarily suspend the operating licence of Triplebet Limited (t/a Matchbook). As a result, from 23.59 on 17 February 2020 we will be briefly closed for all betting and casino activity in the United Kingdom.”

Matchbook also took to its official Twitter account, following the UKGC’s decision. In a tweet, it said that customers could still withdraw funds.

No comment from the UKGC

So far, the UKGC hasn’t released any comments. Therefore, at the moment, we’re unsure why Matchbook was suspended.

It’s also unclear whether the operator will be reviewed or not.

Matchbook has said that it “will be back soon”, while also stating that it has been “in regular contact with the UK Gambling Commission”. During these talks, the company claims that it has “agreed on a path forward where it will deliver a number of conditions”.

Along with still being able to withdraw funds, customers will also have existing positions on open bets settled.

In recent days, the UKGC has announced that online casino operators might soon have to implement stake limits.
