Betfred will launch a new sportsbook in Pennsylvania this year, which will be powered by Scientific Games.
The operator plans to begin its roll-out in the first half of 2020, with the aim of being ready for the NFL season.
A full portfolio
Last Wednesday, Betfred and Scientific Games announced that they’ll be providing both retail and digital offerings. The partnership will get started with the former of these, at the Wind Creek Casino in Bethlehem.
And then, in time for the start of the 2020/ 2021 NFL campaign, the operator plans to have its digital sportsbook launched.
Mark Stebbings, Chief Operating Officer at Betfred, commented on the deal. He referred to Scientific Games as the “clear choice” for this launch.
On top of this, he commented on OpenSports – the SG entity that will provide the new platform. His words were as follows.
“OpenSports provides best-in-class, reliable technology and services that will help us reach more players and grow our sportsbook presence at speed.”
The OpenSports suite will enable Betfred to offer a range of unique features. These include mobile betting technology for its digital solution.
For the operator’s retail offerings, over-the-counter betting options and retail betting kiosks will be provided.
Moreover, data feeds will be supplied by OpenTrade. This is also part of OpenSports.
Supporting US expansion
Betfred is already a household name in the UK, allowing customers to wager on various sporting events. This goes for both online gambling and its retail outlets throughout the country.
Senior Vice President (Sportsbook) for Scientific Games, Keith O’Loughlin, spoke about his company supporting Betfred’s US expansion. Acknowledging the brand’s success in the UK, he went on to say that “their move into the U.S. will spark growth”.
O’Laughlin also said the following.
“Once again, a sophisticated and experienced sports betting operator has chosen OpenSports to responsibly grow its U.S. presence with our maximum reliability, scalability, and performance.
“Together, Scientific Games and Betfred can make a massive impact in the sports betting arena by driving player engagement and putting their digital and retail sportsbooks at the forefront of this expanding landscape.”
Betfred’s US expansion follows on from the likes of DraftKings, who entered the market in late 2019.
