Highlights of Musk’s interview with the BBC

The second richest man in the world, and owner of Tesla and Twitter, gave an exclusive interview to the BBC last night, where it was said he “tried to do the interviewing as much as the other way around”.

Talking about his time at the helm of Twitter so far, Elon Musk said: “It’s not been boring. It’s been quite a rollercoaster.”

“It has been really quite a stressful situation over the last several months”, he added, but said that he didn’t regret buying the company and confirmed that he thought it was the right thing to do.

He said that cutting is staff down from 8,000 to 1,500 when he bought the firm was not easy and that he didn’t fire everyone in person, saying “It’s not possible to talk with that many people face to face.”

Addressing the latest controversy with the BBC, in which a label was added to the BBC Twitter profile that declared, wrongly, that it was “government funded media”, Musk said: “We’re trying to be accurate” and “I actually do have a lot of respect for the BBC.”

He continued with his pursuit of bots on the platform, saying they are the cause of misinformation on the platform and that deleting them will decrease fake news.

But as the BBC said: “Many outside experts disagree. One study – and there are quite a few others along the same lines – found engagement with popular misinformation-spreading accounts spiked after Mr Musk’s takeover.”

The interview was broadcast live on Twitter Spaces from San Francisco.
