TikTok rolls out Series monetization feature

TikTok has confirmed the launch of a new feature designed to further improve monetization options for creators on the platform.

Traditionally, short-form videos have proved more difficult to monetize as they are generally unsuitable for ad inclusion.

However, given the enormous rise and popularity of TikTok, it will come as no surprise to learn that the company has long sought to find ways for creators to make money from their content.

With the new Series feature, creators will now be able to set up paywalls for some of their content, allowing them to make direct revenue from the videos they post.

TikTok detailed: “Developed with our community’s love of sharing authentic stories, expertise and experiences in mind, Series enables eligible creators to post Collections of premium content behind a paywall which viewers can purchase for access.

“One Series can include up to 80 videos, each up to 20 minutes long, giving people a new, longer format to watch their favourite creators and content.”

Content creators will be able to set the price of their Series content, with available prices of between $1 and $190. Users can purchase Series content through in-video links or links on creator profiles.

TikTok went on to confirm that all Series content must adhere to the platform’s guidelines.

This definitely seems to be a step forward and should give creators on TikTok more options for making money from their content.

However, the platform still has some way to go if it wants to compete with YouTube, which allows for easier and more accessible creator monetization through ad revenue.

Currently, Series has been made available to a handful of select creators. We can expect to see the feature rolled out further in the next few months, with creators able to access Series after making an application.
