New South Wales ILGA prepares to hand over to a new regulator

The New South Wales (NSW) Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority, or ILGA, have recently announced a switch to the state’s new regulator, the Independent Casino Commission, or ICC. This newly formed regulator is considered the new authority to the Australian state’s stance on all gambling and iGaming matters. The new regulator will come into effect on September 5 which was announced on September 1st by the NSW Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority.

The move over to a new regulator comes after scandal-hit casino, The Star, gained a review into its compliance and the issues raised that were described as “the serious matters uncovered during The Star review and the potential for ongoing compliance failures”. Since then, the ILGA has hired the services of business development consultants Wexted Advisors to aid in their compliance issues and act as independent experts on behalf of the ILGA.

The ILGA sought the use of Wexted Advisors to “identify any areas of immediate concern”. The new team leading the ICC will be made up of current ILGA chair Phillip Crawford and other ILGA “veterans” to lead the team.

“This marks a new era in the way casinos in NSW are allowed to operate, with new comprehensive measures targeting key issues such as money laundering and other criminal activity.” State Minister for Hospitality and Racing Kevin Anderson said.

“This essential reset will give the people of NSW confidence that the State’s casino operators will be held to the highest possible standards.”
